I appreciate that not all mums want to go back to work after having a baby but it’s fast becoming impossible anyway. The cost of child minding is greater than the amount of money you actually earn which got me thinking.
Why don’t we create an affordable child minding network. We could have training schemes put in place for say 100,000 applicants nationwide funded by the government. We could have tax breaks created allowing for reduced child minding costs to be tax free. This would get more people back to work, more money in the economy, more income tax and NI being paid and more momentum in the economic recovery.
But of course it doesn’t just apply to mums going out to work but also those working from home. There are times when children and work just don’t mix and child minding would still be relevant to homeworkers.
